The Wonders of Plastic Series: Part Five - Metal to Plastic Conversion

Did you know that advancements in plastic technology have allowed us to convert previously metal parts to plastic? Depending on the material and additives, some plastic can be just as strong as some metals. Converting something that was made from metal to a new plastic material can save a company a lot of time and money in the long run.

Plastic parts weigh considerably less than their metal counterparts and save money on shipping costs. Some metal parts might have needed welding, or other work, and converting them to a plastic design can eliminate a lot of that work by including it in the molded design. This also helps in lessening assembly time per part.

Plastic parts can be produced much faster than metal ones, which can result in a large increase in productivity. Producing metal parts can have a negative impact on the environment in that heavy metals and harmful chemicals can be released during their production. With the right additives, a plastic part can eliminate contact with heavy or corrosive metals. Specialty materials that are resistant to high temperatures, chemicals, and electrical conductivity can be used, which can make the production process much safer.

IVP Plastics specializes in metal to plastic conversion. To view our case studies on parts we have converted, visit us here. Next week we will talk about bioplastics and plastic innovation.

IVP Plastics was founded over 60 years ago and has experience in processing more than 140 custom plastic materials, specializing in reinforced and high-temperature materials.
